Trevor Ray Hart - Urban Foraging Series

Trevor first made contact with me just prior to the spring of 2020. He was initially interested in working on a series of photos relating to foraging in general, but given the turmoil of early 2020 and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we both thought it would be much more interesting to focus on a less traditional aspect, Urban Foraging. It seemed especially relevant bearing in mind the ensuing upsurge in interest in the outdoors, offset against the restrictions of movement placed on many, confining them very much to their immediate locality.

Here is what Trevor himself had to say:

“After previously approaching Rob in early 2020, and then having to then put all our plans on hold, I became aware during lockdown just how many people were using their precious daily walks as a way to immerse themselves within nature. Once restrictions were starting to be lifted, I contacted him again with an idea to shoot some locally based foraging imagery, as part of my bigger project around the notion of reconnection.

Rob’s enthusiasm for the project was instantaneous. From the original idea we developed it into a far more urban story. I wanted to illustrate that there are edible plants to be found on any walk, not just within the countryside .

The passion for foraging, and depth of knowledge relating to the outdoors, demonstrated by Rob was inspiring to me throughout this project. He was a great subject to photograph, and working alongside him has helped me to produce a great series of images.”
